REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - CHAPTER 177E REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - LONG TITLE Empowering section VerDate:10/07/2003 (Cap 177, section 7B(1)) [10 July 2003] (L.N. 126 of 2003) REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - SECT 1 (Omitted as spent) VerDate:10/07/2003 (Omitted as spent) REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - SECT 2 Interpretation VerDate:01/07/2004 In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires- "cross-boundary driver" (跨境駕駛者) means a person who holds- (a) a valid driving licence issued under the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap 374) other than a learner’s driving licence and a probationary driving licence; (b) a valid driving licence issued by an administrative authority in the Mainland which authorizes its holder to drive a motor vehicle lawfully; and (c) (i) a valid Approval Notice for Motor Vehicles and Drivers Travelling to and from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau1 issued by the Vehicle Administration Office of Guangdong Public Security Bureau2; (ii) a valid Check Book for Vehicles Travelling to and from Hong Kong3 issued by the Shenzhen Customs4; (iii) a valid Check Book for Container Trucks Travelling to and from Hong Kong5 issued by the Shenzhen Customs4; (iv) a valid Handbook for Drivers Driving to and from Hong Kong6 issued by the Shenzhen Customs4; or (v) a valid Check Book for the Inspection and Quarantine of Vehicles and Persons Travelling to and from the Mainland7 issued by the Shenzhen Administration of Entry and Exit Inspection and Quarantine8; (L.N. 77 of 2004) "smart identity card centre" (智能身分證中心) means a smart identity card centre specified in Schedule 1; "valid identity card to be replaced" (有待取代的有效身分證) means a valid identity card issued before 23 June 2003 or issued on or after that date on an application made before that date. ___________________________________________________________________________ __ Note: 1 "Approval Notice for Motor Vehicles and Drivers Travelling to and from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau" is the English translation of "粵港澳機動車輛 往來及駕駛員駕車批準通知書". 2 "Vehicle Administration Office of Guangdong Public Security Bureau" is the English translation of "廣東省公安廳車輛管理所". 3 "Check Book for Vehicles Travelling to and from Hong Kong" is the English translation of "來往香港汽車進出境簽證簿". 4 "Shenzhen Customs" is the English translation of "深圳海關". 5 "Check Book for Container Trucks Travelling to and from Hong Kong" is the English translation of "來往香港集裝箱拖車進出境簽證簿". 6 "Handbook for Drivers Driving to and from Hong Kong" is the English translation of "來往香港汽車駕駛人員專用手冊". 7 "Check Book for the Inspection and Quarantine of Vehicles and Persons Travelling to and from the Mainland" is the English translation of "出入境車輛及人員檢驗檢疫監管簿". 8 "Shenzhen Administration of Entry and Exit Inspection and Quarantine" is the English translation of "深圳出入境檢驗檢疫局". "smart identity card centre" (智能身分證中心) "cross-boundary driver" (跨境駕駛者) "valid identity card to be replaced" (有待取代的有效身分證) REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - SECT 3 Applications for new identity cards VerDate:03/02/2005 (1) This section applies to- (a) the Chief Executive; (b) any member of the Executive Council; (c) any member of the Legislative Council; (d) any principal official appointed pursuant to a nomination under Article 48(5) of the Basic Law; (e) any member of the Immigration Service; (f) any police officer; and (g) any public officer at the rank of Chief Labour Inspector, Senior Labour Inspector, Labour Inspector I or Labour Inspector II. (2) A person to whom this section applies who holds a valid identity card to be replaced shall apply for a new identity card at a smart identity card centre on or after 14 March 2005, but in any event not later than the date of expiry of the period directed from time to time under subsection (3) which is applicable to him. (L.N. 211 of 2004) (3) Subject to subsection (2) and section 4, a person who holds a valid identity card to be replaced bearing a year of birth specified in column 1 of Schedule 2 shall apply for a new identity card within the period specified opposite thereto in column 2 of that Schedule at a smart identity card centre. (L.N. 77 of 2004) REGISTRATION OF PERSONS (APPLICATION FOR NEW IDENTITY CARDS) ORDER - SECT 4 Cross-boundary drivers to apply for new identity cards VerDate:01/07/2004 A cross-boundary driver (except those whose identity card bears a year of birth falling after 1957 but before 1970) who holds a valid identity card to be replaced shall apply for a new identity card at a smart identity card centre within the period from 27 September 2004 to the end of the period specified in column 2 of Schedule 2 in respect of the year of birth borne on his identity card.
