FACTORIES AND INDUSTRIAL UNDERTAKINGS (LIFTING APPLIANCES AND LIFTING GEAR) REGULATIONS - REGULATION 14
Cranes with derricking jibs
(1) The owner of a crane having a derricking jib operated through a clutch
mechanism shall ensure that the crane is not used unless it is provided with a
properly maintained and effective locking arrangement, placed between the
derricking clutch and the pawl sustaining the derricking drum, which will
ensure that-
(a) the clutch cannot be disengaged unless the pawl is effectively engaged
with the derricking drum; and
(b) the pawl cannot be disengaged unless the clutch is effectively engaged
with the derricking drum.
(2) This regulation shall not apply to a crane in which-
(a) the hoisting drum and the derricking drum are independently driven; or
(b) the mechanism driving the derricking drum is self locking.
