PATENTS (GENERAL) RULES - SECT 87
Security for costs
If any of the following persons, that is to say-
(a) any person by whom a reference is made to the Registrar under section
13 of the Ordinance;
(b) any person who has referred to the Registrar under section 49 of the
Ordinance the question as to whether an invention is a patentable
invention;
(c) any person by whom notice of opposition is given to the Registrar
under section 48(2) or 146(2) of the Ordinance, neither resides nor
carries on business in Hong Kong, the Registrar may require him to
give security for the costs or expenses of the proceedings and in
default of such security being given may treat the reference,
application or notice as abandoned.
