BOUNDARY AND ELECTION COMMISSION (REGISTRATION OF ELECTORS) (GEOGRAPHICAL CONSTITUENCIES) - SECT 4

Form of registers

(1) (a) A register shall, as regards a particular election, be divided into
parts by reference to the constituencies relating to that election so that
there is a separate part in the register for each such constituency.

   (b)  An entry in a register relating to an elector in respect of a
        constituency shall-

        (i)    show the identity card number and name of that elector; and

        (ii)   contain- (A) the letter "M" for male or "F" for female to
               denote the sex of that elector; and (B) the address of the
               principal place of residence of that elector. (L.N. 586 of

(2) The order in which the names of electors are to be arranged under
subsection (1)(b)(i) shall be determined by reference to the alphabetical and
numerical order of their identity card numbers.

(3) In the register, the name of an elector shall be entered in-

   (a)  English, if the signature of the applicant on the relevant application
        is in English;

   (b)  Chinese, if such signature is in Chinese; and

   (c)  English or Chinese, as determined by the registration officer, if the
        application was signed otherwise than in the manner referred to in
        paragraph (a) or (b).

(4) Subject to this section, the register shall be in such form as the
registration officer considers appropriate.

(4A) Without affecting the generality of subsection (4), the registration
officer may, in such manner as he thinks fit, indicate in a register, in
relation to a person whose name or identity card appears in it-

   (a)  whether he is registered to vote in respect of a functional
        constituency and, if he is, the relevant functional constituency; and

   (b)  whether he is registered to vote in respect of the election committee
        constituency. (L.N. 586 of 1994)

(4B) In subsection (4A), "election committee constituency"
(選舉委員會組別) and "functional constituency" (功能組別) have the
meanings assigned to them by the
Legislative Council (Electoral Provisions) Ordinance ( Cap. 381). (L.N. 586 of

(5) Any-

   (a)  omission of a particular referred to in this section from an entry in
        a register, other than an
omission of both the identity card number and the name of a person; or

   (b)  inaccuracy in a particular referred to in this section, shall not
        prevent the person to whom the entry relates from voting at an
