MERCHANT SHIPPING (PREVENTION OF POLLUTION BY SEWAGE) REGULATION - SECT 29

Exceptions to section 28

Section 28 does not apply if the discharge of sewage into the sea from a ship-

   (a)  is necessary for the purpose of securing the safety of the ship and
        persons on board the ship or of saving life at sea;

   (b)  results from damage to the ship or its equipment, provided that all
        reasonable steps had been taken before and after the occurrence of the
        damage for the purpose of preventing or minimizing the discharge of
        sewage; or

   (c)  is made-

        (i)    in waters within the jurisdiction of another place; and

        (ii)   in accordance with the law of that place.
