ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS (SAFETY) REGULATION - SCHEDULE 1
ESSENTIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS

1. General conditions
(1) The requirements in subsection (2), the recognition and observance of
which will ensure that an electrical product will be used safely in
applications for which it is made, shall be printed on the product in English,
Chinese or international standard symbols, or, if this is not possible, on an
accompanying notice.
(2) Such requirements shall include-
(a) rated voltage and frequency;
(b) rated input in terms of watts or kilowatts and amperes or
milliamperes;
(c) model or type reference number; and
(d) manufacturer's name or trade mark.
(3) The electrical product, together with its component parts, shall be made
in such a way as to ensure that it can be safely and properly assembled and
connected.
2. Protection against hazards arising from an electrical product
An electrical product shall be so designed and constructed in order to ensure
that-
(a) persons and animals are adequately protected against danger of
physical injury or other harm which might be caused by electrical
contact whether direct or indirect;
(b) temperatures, arcs or radiation which are not part of the intended
function of the product, and likely to cause a danger, are not
produced;
(c) persons, animals and property are adequately protected against
non-electrical danger caused by the electrical product which are
revealed by experience;
(d) persons and animals are adequately protected against danger due to
hazardous materials used in the electrical product; and
(e) the insulation is suitable for foreseeable conditions.
3. Protection against hazards which may be caused by external influences on an
electrical product
An electrical product shall be so designed and constructed in order to ensure
that-
(a) the electrical product meets the expected mechanical requirements in
such a way that persons, animals and property are adequately protected
against danger caused by the electrical product;
(b) the electrical product is resistant to non-mechanical influences in
expected environmental conditions, in such a way that persons, animals
and property are adequately protected against danger caused by the
electrical product;
(c) in foreseeable conditions of overload, persons, animals and property
are adequately protected against danger caused by the electrical
product; and
(d) the electrical product, other than a fixed and hand-held product, has
such stability that it can be maintained in a specific position.
