ROAD TRAFFIC (TRAFFIC CONTROL) REGULATIONS - REGULATION 44

Vacating a motor vehicle; and opening of door of a vehicle

(1) No person in charge of a motor vehicle on a road shall vacate the vehicle-

   (a)  without having stopped the engine; and

   (b)  where the vehicle is fitted with a brake capable of being set, without
        having set the brake so as effectually to prevent 2 at least, or in
        the case of a vehicle with only 3 wheels, 1 at least of the wheels
        from revolving: Provided that paragraph (a) shall not apply-

        (i)    to prevent the working of the engine of a fire services vehicle
               for fire fighting or pumping purposes; or

        (ii)   where the vehicle is designed so that the engine is used for
               purposes other than the propulsion of the vehicle and the
               driver is in attendance.

(2) No person shall open or cause or permit to be opened any door of a motor
vehicle or trailer on a road so as to cause injury or danger to any person.
