ROAD TRAFFIC (CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF VEHICLES) REGULATIONS - REGULATION 61

Exhaust pipes on buses and light buses

(1) The exhaust pipe of every bus and light bus shall be so fitted or
shielded, and maintained that-

   (a)  no inflammable material can be thrown upon it from any other part of
        the vehicle;

   (b)  it is not likely to cause a fire through proximity to any inflammable
        material on the vehicle; and

   (c)  so far as is reasonably practicable, fumes are prevented from entering
        the vehicle from it.

(2) The outlet of the exhaust pipe of every bus and light bus shall be placed-

   (a)  on the off side of the vehicle; or

   (b)  at the rear of the vehicle, as near as is reasonably practicable to
        the off side of the vehicle.
