MERCHANT SHIPPING (INSTRUCTIONS TO SURVEYORS) (PASSENGER SHIPS) REGULATIONS - REGULATION 86

Marking

All socket signals, rockets, deck flares and lifebuoy fights must be clearly
and permanently marked or stamped with the date of manufacture. Adhesive
labels or painted figures are not regarded as permanent marking. Where sheet
brass labels are used in contact with tin cases, the surveyors should be
careful to see that the brass plates are properly soldered on and that there
is no sign of corrosion of the canister.
