CENSUS AND STATISTICS (QUARTERLY SURVEY OF SERVICE INDUSTRIES) ORDER - SECT 1

Interpretation

Adaptation amendments retroactively made - see 23 of 1998 s. 2 In this Order,
unless the context otherwise requires-

"business establishment" (商業機構) means an establishment engaged in
activity in the service industries;

"business receipts" (業務收入) includes the value of all sales of goods,
receipts from customers for services rendered to them and income from other
sources;

"business services" (商用服務) includes accounting and auditing,
advertising, business management and consultancy services, data processing and
tabulating, designing, employment agency, equipment leasing, legal services,
machinery rental, market research, news agency, public relations, secretarial
services, security and detective services, real estate services and
engineering and technical services; (L.N. 75 of 1997)

"communication" (通訊) includes postal, telephone, telegraph, radio and
cable communications, message delivery and message exchange services;
"community, social and personal services" (社區、社會及個人服務)
includes motion picture and other entertainment services, miscellaneous
amusement and recreational services, and miscellaneous personal services;

"financing" (財務) includes the business of all finance, loans, mortgage and
discount companies, dealers or brokers and exchanges in stocks and shares,
commodity futures, gold bullion and foreign currency, and pawnshops and money
changers, but does not include banks, deposit-taking companies, restricted
licence banks and representative offices of foreign banks within the meaning
of the Census and Statistics (Annual Survey of Banks, 
Deposit-taking Companies, Restricted Licence Banks and Representative 
Offices of Foreign Banks) Order (Cap 316 sub. leg.) and holding companies; (23

"hotel" (酒店) includes any place where lodging is provided on a fee-paying
basis;

"import and export" (進口及出口) includes the business of importing goods
for wholesaling, exporting goods, and acting as a buying agency or commission
agency through arrangement for importing and exporting goods;

"insurance" (保險) includes the business of insurers, reinsurers, agents and
brokers of all kinds of insurance and related insurance services;

"service industries" (服務行業) means any of the following industries-

   (a)  wholesale;

   (b)  import and export;

   (c)  hotel;

   (d)  transport;

   (e)  storage and warehousing;

   (f)  communication;

   (g)  financing;

   (h)  insurance;

   (i)  business services;

   (j)  community, social and personal services; (L.N. 75 of 1997)

"storage and warehousing" (倉庫及貨倉) includes storage and warehousing
facilities for hire by the general public;

"survey" (調查) means the statistical survey referred to in section 2;

"survey period" (調查期) means the survey period specified in or under
section 5;

"transport" (運輸) includes the business of providing transport services by
land, water or air, renting of transport equipment, acting as an agency,
management company, or branch or representative office of an establishment
engaged in the provision of transport services by land, water or air, and
providing supporting services or services allied to transport by land, water
or air;

"wholesale" (批發) includes the business of reselling new and used goods to
retailers, to industrial, commercial, institutional or professional users, or
to other wholesalers. (Enacted 1994)
