SHIPPING AND PORT CONTROL (WORKS) REGULATION - SECT 33

Thorough examination of certain lifting gear

(1) A chain, wire rope sling, ring, hook, shackle, swivel or pulley block
shall not be used as lifting gear if it has not been thoroughly examined by a
competent examiner, within the preceding 12 months.

(2) If there is a contravention of subsection (1), the owner of the lifting
gear and the person in charge of works commit an offence and each is liable on
conviction to a fine at level 3.

(3) Subsection (1) does not apply if—

   (a)  the chain, wire rope sling, ring, hook, shackle, swivel or pulley
        block has been duly tested and examined in compliance with section  32
        , within the preceding 12 months;

   (b)  the chain, wire rope sling, ring, hook, shackle, swivel or pulley
        block has been thoroughly examined in compliance with the relevant
        local vessels regulation, within the preceding 12 months; or

   (c)  the chain, wire rope sling, ring, hook, shackle, swivel or pulley
        block has been examined in compliance with regulation 21(3) of the
        Shipping and Port Control (Cargo Handling) Regulations ( Cap. 313 sub.
        leg. B), within the preceding 12 months.
