SHIPPING AND PORT CONTROL (WORKS) REGULATION - SECT 17
Power operated hatch coverings and hull doors, etc.
(1) Where works are to be, or are being, carried out on, to or by means of a
vessel, no power operated hatch covering of the vessel shall be opened, closed
or otherwise operated—
(a) by a person other than a competent person; or
(b) in a manner that may cause injury to any person.
(2) Where works are to be, or are being, carried out on, to or by means of a
vessel, no power operated door in the hull, ramp, retractable deck or similar
ship’s equipment of the vessel shall be opened, closed or otherwise
operated—
(a) by a person other than a competent person; or
(b) in a manner that may cause injury to any person.
(3) If there is a contravention of subsection (1) or (2), the person in charge
of works commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine at level 3.
