Hand grips on hatch coverings

(1) Where works are to be, or are being, carried out on, to or by means of a
vessel, all hatch coverings of the vessel shall be provided with adequate hand
grips.

(2) For the purposes of subsection (1), in determining whether adequate hand
grips are provided, regard shall be had to the size and weight of the hatch
coverings.

(3) If there is a contravention of subsection (1), the person in charge of
works commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine at level 3.

(4) This section does not apply to a hatch covering if the construction of the
hatch or the hatch covering is such that provision of hand grips is
unnecessary.
