AIR POLLUTION CONTROL (VEHICLE DESIGN STANDARDS) (EMISSION) REGULATIONS - REGULATION 14

Certain motor vehicles to be equipped with on-board diagnostic system

(1) Every motor vehicle equipped with a positive-ignition engine and
registered between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2001 (both dates inclusive)
shall be fitted with an on-board diagnostic system so constructed that it
conforms to the requirements specified in- (L.N. 102 of 2001)

   (a)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications administered by the
        California Air Resources Board;

   (b)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications stipulated in Annex XI
        of Council Directive 70/220/EEC made by the Council as amended by its
        subsequent amendments up to and including amendments made by
        Commission Directive 2003/76/EC; or

   (c)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications administered by the
        Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan. (L.N. 165 of

(2) Subregulation (1) shall not apply to any motor vehicle specified in
Schedule 11.

(3) Every motor vehicle equipped with a positive-ignition engine and
registered between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2005 (both dates inclusive)
shall be fitted with an on-board diagnostic system so constructed that it
conforms to the requirements specified in the specifications referred to in
subregulation (1)(a), (b) or (c). (L.N. 102 of 2001; L.N. 165 of 2005)

(4) Subregulation (3) shall not apply to any motor vehicle specified in
paragraph (a), (ba), (ea), (f), (g) or (h) of Schedule 11. (L.N. 102 of 2001;

(5) Every motor vehicle registered on or after 1 January 2006 under the
provisions of regulation 7B(1)(a), (b), (d), (e), (f), (g), (h), (j) or (n)
shall be fitted with an on-board diagnostic system so constructed that it
conforms to the requirements specified in the specifications referred to in
subregulation (1)(a), (b) or (c). (L.N. 165 of 2005)

(6) Every motor vehicle registered on or after 1 January 2007 under the
provisions of regulation 7B(1)(c), (i), (m) or (q) shall be fitted with an
on-board diagnostic system so constructed that it conforms to the requirements
specified in the specifications referred to in subregulation

(1)(a), (b) or (c). (L.N. 165 of 2005)

(7) Every motor vehicle under regulation 7C(1)(b) shall be fitted with an
on-board diagnostic system so constructed that it conforms to the requirements
specified in—

   (a)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications administered by the
        Environmental Protection Agency of the United States of America;

   (b)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications stipulated in Directive
        2005/55/EC made by the European Parliament and the Council; or

   (c)  the on-board diagnostic system specifications administered by the
        Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan. (L.N. 111 of
