VILLAGE REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION ORDINANCE - SECT 6
Office of indigenous inhabitant representative for Indigenous Village or Composite Indigenous Village
(1) There is established for an Indigenous Village the office of
indigenous inhabitant representative with effect from the date specified in
column 2 of Schedule 2 opposite the name of the Village specified in column 1
of that Schedule. The number of persons to hold the office of
indigenous inhabitant representative established for an Indigenous Village is
specified in column 3 of that Schedule opposite the name of the Village
specified in column 1 of that Schedule.
(2) There is established for a Composite Indigenous Village the office of
indigenous inhabitant representative with effect from the date specified in
column 3 of Schedule 3 opposite the name of the Village specified in column 1
of that Schedule. The number of persons to hold the office of
indigenous inhabitant representative established for a Composite
Indigenous Village is specified in column 4 of that Schedule opposite the name
of the Village specified in column 1 of that Schedule.
(3) An Indigenous Inhabitant Representative shall be elected under this
Ordinance.
(4) The functions of an Indigenous Inhabitant Representative for an
Indigenous Village or a Composite Indigenous Village are-
(a) to reflect views on the affairs of the Village on behalf of the
indigenous inhabitants of the Village; and
(b) to deal with all affairs relating to the lawful traditional rights and
interests, and the traditional way of life, of those indigenous
inhabitants.
(5) In subsection (4), the reference to the affairs of an Indigenous Village
or a Composite Indigenous Village shall, where there is an Existing Village-
(a) which has the same name as the Indigenous Village or Composite
Indigenous Village; and
(b) the Resident Representative for which is a member of the Rural
Committee, of which the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative for the
Indigenous Village or Composite Indigenous Village is also a member,
be construed as including the reference to the affairs of the
Existing Village.
