BEDSPACE APARTMENTS ORDINANCE - SECT 9
Renewal of certificate of exemption
(1) The holder of a certificate of exemption may, not later than 3 months
before the expiration of the certificate, apply for renewal of the
certificate.
(2) An application under subsection (1) shall be made to the Authority in such
form and manner as the Authority may determine.
(3) The Authority may determine an application under this section-
(a) by issuing to the applicant, on payment of the prescribed fee, a new
certificate of exemption for a period not exceeding 12 months subject
to such conditions (whether equivalent, additional or alternative to
those imposed under section 8(2)(a)) as he considers necessary or
expedient for the regulation, supervision and control of the bedspace
apartment; or
(b) by refusing to renew the certificate of exemption on any ground
specified in section 10 which would have entitled him to revoke the
certificate.
(4) Subject to sections 16 and 26(2), where the Authority refuses to renew a
certificate of exemption, he shall serve on the holder of the certificate
notice in writing stating the ground for the refusal.
(5) A certificate of exemption in respect of which an application for renewal
is made under this section and which expires prior to the determination of
such application shall, unless such application is withdrawn, or the
certificate is revoked under section 10, remain in effect until the
determination by the Authority of such application. (Enacted 1994)
