POLICE FORCE ORDINANCE - SECT 55

Power to stop, search and detain vessels, etc., or person suspected of conveying stolen property

It shall be lawful for any police officer to stop, search and detain any
vessel, boat, vehicle, horse or other animal or thing in or upon which there
is reason to suspect that anything stolen or unlawfully obtained may be found
and also any person who may be reasonably suspected of having or conveying in
any manner anything stolen or unlawfully obtained; and any person to whom any
property is offered to be sold or delivered, if he has reasonable cause to
suspect that any such offence has been committed with respect to such
property, or that the same or any part thereof has been stolen or otherwise
unlawfully obtained, is hereby authorized and if it is in his power, is
required to apprehend and detain such offender and as soon as may be to
deliver him into the custody of a police officer together with such property
to be dealt with according to law.
